Frenchie's again and other dining out

We had several different food experiences last week so I thought I'd combine them in one post. Wednesday night we returned to Frenchie's Wine Bar which we've decided is our favorite Paris restaurant.  We also discovered that it's easy to get a good table on a drizzly weeknight (and it probably helped that it was Halloween!).  We sat at a table overlooking the kitchen and it was great fun to watch the food preparation.  Here is what we ate: Burrata with apple, squash, miso and candied almonds.  We've seen burrata on a number of menus and tried it a few times since we've been in Paris and this was the best combination. The standout dish we ate was cauliflower and broccoli tempura with horseradish aioli.  The horseradish aioli added a spicy note to the dish.  It was so good we almost ordered a second serving! Dedication

This will be a story about a 3 month trip to Paris and some excursions to other parts of France.   We've spent plenty of time in Paris so this should be a relaxed trip.   Nothing we HAVE to see or do.   Just easy walks down beautiful streets with our dog, Emmy.   Great meals.   Interesting food shops.   Struggling to speak French (OK, we're not looking forward to that one).   We've even got tickets to the Jimmy Buffett concert.   And plans to spend Thanksgiving in the south of France with sort-of-family.   Maxine will help make Thanksgiving dinner for 20 French people as she did four years ago. We promise many pictures.   Descriptions of great meals.   Stories of Emmy and how she interacts with the French.   The change of seasons from late summer through late fall/early winter.   We'll go back to old places we've been going to for 30 years and talk about how slowly France changes.   We'll report on practical as...

Nuit Blanche -- White Night

An excuse to stay up all night sponsored by the City of Paris. We don't actually understand French modern art.  Or maybe we don't understand anyone's modern art... One night a year the city of Paris runs the event called Nuit Blanche,  which I (Tom) attended 12 years ago and we've been looking forward to since before we arrived.   We accept that we don't "get it".  But,  that's ok.  It's fun.  And one of the areas where they were concentrating this year was less than a mile away. But, first,  lunch.  We picked up sandwiches and macarons at what had been one of our favorite bakeries in 2006 when we lived down the street.   With the weather remaining great,  we had a picnic in Luxembourg Gardens.
